Hayden
Oct 19, 1954 — May 17, 2026
Sandra Kay Hayden (née Wimbish), 71, passed away on May 17, 2026, at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Sandy was born October 19, 1954 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Trudy Williams and Marine Wimbish. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, cherished sister, and trusted friend whose warmth and wisdom touched many lives.
She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Hayden; her son, Brian (Christi Price and her children, Toby Mackey and Evie Price); her daughter, Stephanie; and her beloved grandson, Logan Hammons, who brought her immense pride and joy. She is also survived by her siblings, Vicki Hughes (Chuck) and Doug Wimbish and a sister in law, Diana Wimbish, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will deeply miss her presence. She was preceded in death by her siblings Stevie Wimbish and Cindy Pulley and sister in law, Betty Wimbish.
Sandy also leaves behind a large and loving extended family through the Hayden and Chrusciel families. Larry Hayden, David Hayden, and Kitty Chrusciel preceded her in death. She is survived by Danny Hayden (Joyce), Mike Hayden (Susan), Carl Chrusciel (Mary), and Walter Chrusciel (Dawn). She also shared many treasured memories with close family friends, the Bradens and the Hammons, who held a special place in her heart.
Sandy built a life filled with meaningful work and lasting friendships. Some of her favorite professional memories came from her time with the BBB, the Granite City Police Department as a dispatcher, and RF Technologies. She was respected not only for her work ethic, but also for her compassion and willingness to help others.
Outside of work, Sandy found joy in spending time with the people she loved most. She enjoyed pool nights with the girls, bowling, watching Jeopardy!, Last Week Tonight, and Saturday Night Live, and playing board games and computer games with family and friends.
More than anything, Sandy will be remembered as a wonderful woman who was always happy to provide advice, comfort, or understanding. She had a remarkable ability to listen and care for those around her. Her strength, humor, and kindness will be sorely missed by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
