Obituary

Peggy Jean Burch, 96, of Granite City, IL died on Friday, September 23, 2022 at her home in Granite City.

She was born on March 15, 1926 in St. Louis, MO to William and Freida (Wolf) Frede.

Peggy married Weldon Burch in Granite City on May 28, 1948.  He preceded her in death on August 9, 2010.

She was a life-long resident of Granite City and lived in the same house for 96 years.

Peggy loved her Family and took great joy in spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.  Not a day went by that she did not think of them and want the very best for everyone. Throughout her life, she never, ever met a stranger. Her inquisitive nature endeared her to many and she was genuinely interested in the stories people told...always making a memory.

Peggy loved to sew and quilt and made many beautiful examples for Family and Friends.  Always getting excited about finding colorful materials and notions to make one of a kind creations that folks still enjoy today. She also loved to read and lined her walls with bookshelves, surrounding herself with books of all kinds. She listened to her books on tape long into her later years and always looked forward to the next chapter...always making a memory.

Peggy had many jobs throughout her life, but her favorite was being a Deputy Assessor for the Granite City Township Assessors Office. Her interaction with the public was enjoyable and she loved helping others be sure they were getting the most breaks on their taxes. After she retired at 75, she stayed friendly with her coworkers, having regular dinners, trying the libations at the newest restaurants...always making a memory.

Peggy loved to give what she could for causes and charities. Whether it was donating goods, her time or services, she jumped in with both feet and stayed until the work was finished. She baked the most delicious cookies for the bake sales benefitting the Granite City APA Animal Shelter and people would ask for them by name, buying extra so as not to miss out. She enjoyed working hard to accomplish many tasks...always making a memory.

Peggy always wanted to make a memory...please smile when you think of the memories she created and remember to love your Family and Friends, be creative and give of yourself, READ THAT BOOK!, work hard, stay in touch, eat that delicious dinner with dessert and help others succeed with the skills you possess...each and every time, always making a memory.

The loving mother is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Chris) Rose of Granite City; 3 sons:  William Burch of Granite City, Steven (Sally) Burch of St. Louis, MO and Terry (Dina) Burch of Granite City; 4 grandchildren:  Zachary (Amanda) Burch, Colin Burch, Shane (Amy) Faith and Jacob Burch; 3 great grandchildren:  Olive, Ezra and Evelynn and a sister in law, Charlsie Vunovic of Granite City.
