Mark Andrew Ostendorf

August 27, 1959 – October 27, 2025

Mark Andrew Ostendorf, 66, passed away on October 27, 2025.  Born on August 27, 1959, he was the son of Olin Gene and Delores (nee:  Foehrkolb) Ostendorf.

A graduate of Collinsville High School, Mark studied Criminal Justice at Southwestern Illinois College.  He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne and the 3rd Armored Division.  Following his military service, he dedicated his career to protecting his community as a Fairmont City Police Officer.

Mark had a great love for motorcycles and looked forward to the rides he would take with Dawn and friends.  He was known for always having an answer – most often, "Because I'm an Ostendorf" – a phrase that never failed to bring a smile to those around him.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Goshorn-Ostendorf; his children, Anthony Ostendorf and wife Amanda (and their children Jordan, Cassidy, and Zachery), Andrea Ostendorf, and Nicholas Ostendorf (and his children Josiah and Jeremiah).  He is also survived by his stepchildren, Janel Carter and Jeremy Carter.  He was preceded in death by his stepson, Jonathan Carter.

Mark is also survived by his siblings Terry Ostendorf of St. Louis, MO, Brian (Rose) Ostendorf of Caseyville, IL and Lee Ostendorf of Fairmont City, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Dee Medlin.

Mark will be remembered for his dedication to service and his strong sense of duty.  His courage and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
