J.Y. Fitzhugh, 92, of Granite City, IL died on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on July 9, 1931 in Dover, TN to Waldon and Katie (Joyce) Fitzhugh.

J.Y. married Donna Shelton in Granite City, IL on June 3, 1955.

The loving husband and father retired from the Granite City School District as a teacher in 1990 after 30+ years of service.  He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and repairing things for family and neighbors.  J.Y.  was a jack of all trades and a hard worker.

Besides his wife, J.Y. is survived by a daughter, Marsha Smith of Granite City; 2 sons:  Bradley (Patricia) Fitzhugh of Knoxville, TN and David Fitzhugh of Granite City; 7 grandchildren:  Abraham Smith, Katie Hahs, Phillip Fitzhugh, Shelia Breidegam, Thomas Fitzhugh, Justin Lynn and Joshua Lynn;  11 great grandchildren and a sister, Mary McGee of Dover, TN.

J.Y. is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons:  Phillip Fitzhugh and Tommy Fitzhugh; 3 brothers:  Bernard Fitzhugh, Bill Fitzhugh and Steve Fitzhugh and a sister, Bertha Milton.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City, IL.  Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL.
