James LeRoy Unger, 75 of Granite City passed away in his home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

He was born to the late James and Maxine (Dortch) Unger on November 2, 1948 in Stewart County, Tennessee.   He met Myra Penrod and they were married at Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City in 1967. James and Myra owned Unger's Market and had several locations throughout the area. James loved to fish and he was always joking around. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren, he was the best grandfather.

James is survived by his wife, Myra Unger; a son; James (Darla) Unger; 2 grandchildren; Brandon (Ashley) Unger, Kyle Unger; a great grandson: Waylon Unger; a brother : Donald Unger; and a sister: Joann Fields

Besides his parents, James is preceded in death by a grandson; James Unger.
